Yesterday was our 11 year wedding anniversary and we were able to keep our commitment of taking a vacation for just the 2 of us. This year it meant leaving behind Micah and 7 week old Claire with grandparents Jack and Serene. They did a great job watching the kids while we took an overnight trip to Madeline Island, Wisconsin.
The island is the largest in Lake Superior and it was beautiful. We took a ferry ride over to it and then spent most of the afternoon doing some sea kayaking! There were magnificent caves cut out into the walls of the island that we could explore in our kayaks. ( yes, it was kinda creepy! )
After paddling over 4 miles we were tired and hungry so we treated ourselves to ice cream cones and window shopping at all the cute boutiques.
I admit it felt strange yet wonderful to be able to pick up and do whatever we wanted to on the trip. No diaper bags or nap times to schedule in-between adventures. And I got my first solid night sleep in almost 10 months. Too bad it all had to end... at least till next year!
